Nobody Understands…

For we do not have a high priest who is unable to sympathize with our weaknesses ,but we have one who has been tempted in every way, just as we are — yet was without sin. Let us then approach the throne of grace with confidence, so that we may receive mercy and find grace to help us in our time of need.Hebrews 4:15-16

Nobody understands what I’m going through…

That is a common refrain among college students when things don’t go their way. Nobody understands their workload. Nobody understands the temptations they are facing. Nobody understands the difficult situation they are in. Nobody understands how lonely they are or how badly they feel. Nobody understands the pressure to engage in sinful activity, the stress of a bad relationship or the possible unfairness of a professor.

But it’s not true. Consider how many students have passed through the college you attend. They do understand because they went through the same things you are currently experiencing.

Likewise, Jesus knows exactly what it is like to be us and the challenges we face. Jesus is not a distant God who cannot relate to our weaknesses and does not understand how we feel. Jesus came into the world and experienced everything we experience. He faced the same temptations, situations and oppositions, and He overcame them all without stumbling a single time. Christ’s perfect record is now our perfect record by faith. We can pray out all of our struggles and sins before God and know that He hears, sympathizes and forgives.

When you find yourself thinking that nobody understands what you are going through, change the thought from an untruth to a truth — Jesus knows exactly what you are going through, and He is there to comfort, guide and help.
